Trans and gender diverse people are at greater risk of experiencing legal need, including discrimination and harassment, family violence, and civil law issues related to change of identity documents.
We can provide advice to trans and gender diverse people living in Victoria who are seeking advice about a legal issue related to their gender identity such as:
- Discrimination of the basis of gender identity or lawful sexual activity
- Employment issues related to gender identity (e.g. unfair dismissal, bullying or harassment at work)
- Change of ID (including name or gender marker)
- Family violence
- Personal safety where the violence/threats/stalking relates to gender identity
- Victims of crime compensation (VOCAT) where the violence relates to the person’s gender identity
- Police, judiciary or Corrections complaints
- Health complaints
- Privacy complaints
- In some circumstances, family law (i.e. matters affecting trans and gender diverse young people, including where parent(s) do not consent to gender affirming treatment)
- In some circumstances, criminal law or infringements were the issuing of the charges or infringements relates to the person’s gender identity
