Happy #IDAHOBIT! The LGBTIQ Legal Service on ABC Radio’s Conversations talking family violence and the LGBTIQ+ community

The LGBTIQ Legal Service’s Tanja Golding joined the presenters of The Conversation Hour, Richelle Hunt and Jonathon Kendall, on ABC Radio Melbourne on 17 May 2021. In recognition of IDAHOBIT, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia, the focus was on family violence within the LGBTIQ+ community. We need to know more to understand LGBTIQ+ specific experiences of family and domestic violence and there is a the need for safe and inclusive support services.

The Royal Commission into family violence identified a big problem: that people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer or intersex (LGBTQI) experience intimate partner violence at similar rates as those who identify as heterosexual.
However some people are concerned that there is a lack of support services for victims, friends and family in regional Victoria.
